Barry Nelson, who excelled at playing handsome, "guy next
door" types on the big screen and TV, passed away in April at age 89. Until recent years, many
movie fans were unaware that Nelson was the first actor to portray James Bond onscreen in the
modestly-budgeted 1954 CBS TV live adaptation of Casino Royale. Nelson gave one of his last major
interviews to Cinema Retro in which he discussed his unlikely casting as the famed British agent. The
interview appears in issue #6 which also presents an extensive history of the Casino Royale
legacy. Nelson's big screen features include Airport and The Shining. For an in-depth
