She only made one feature film but it was a high profile one. In 1968, Heather Ripley had the plum role of little Jemima Potts, the adorable daughter of wacky inventor Caractacus Potts, played by Dick Van Dyke in the big budget musical screen adaptation of Ian Fleming's classic children's book "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". The role may have seemed like a dream-like opportunity for a child actor but for Ripley, it only added anxiety to her already complicated life.
